[redacted] for iPad
Nobody expected this, but I'm actually back at university finishing the last courses so I can finally get my bachelors degree. Sounds lame? It did for me. At least until I realized: this semester will contain a big project and I was lucky enough to get a place in one of the teams who will create something for Apples shiny iPad.
Now that I have one myself, I begin to understand how great this project will be if everything works out.
Our team consists of eight people, which is a quite large number when you never worked on such a project. Luckily I have gathered some knowledge on handling groups and our team coordinator does a good job. We all know how to design and code, but our experience with interfaces and Objective-C varies from zero to advanced.
So what will we create? It's a big secret for now, so all I can tell you it will be a game and you will love it.
And why did I even write about this? The most obvious answer: I love to tease. The less obvious one: I could use some help. If you know anything about game programming in 2D or storywriting or creating music and want to share your knowledge mutuality (of course we will mention you in the credits) just send me an email
What I learned so far
We started two weeks ago and I already learned that it's really helpful to use some tools and even if I think some of you might know them already it's worth listing them here.
- Basecamp is my favorite choice for project management. It's rather expensive but totally worth it's price. I use it since a few years and I never regret paying for it.
- I can't think of any reason why one would not use Dropbox.
- Assembla turns out to be a great way for hosting git for free if you don't want to use GitHub and need private hosting. They also offer tickets and integrate in Basecamp which is a nice plus.
- For my personal tasks I rely on Things and iCal
- iA Writer for taking quick notes on my iPad
Moreover I learned you should prefer many short meetings over a long and big one. Also never forget to write down every single idea you have, regardless how weird it sounds.
Expect more soon. If anyone want's the image from above as background, just contact me.
So long.
